Crew Training

The crew is the key element linking a player and a vehicle. Each crew member has their own qualification: Commander, Driver, Gunner, Loader, or Radio Operator. Mastery in controlling a vehicle, as well as additional skills and perks, significantly improves the battle performance of a vehicle.

Major Qualification

The major qualification level determines a vehicle’s performance characteristics. After training your crew to 100% in their major qualification, perks and skills become available to gain additional superiority in battles.

Commander training is of critical importance. Every 10% of the Сommander’s combat skills gives a 1% bonus to the whole crew. For example, if your Сommander is trained to 50%, then the crew receives an additional 5% bonus to the level of major qualification. If your Сommander is trained to 100%, then the crew will receive 10%. The Commander's bonus is not applicable to the Сommander.

Effective major qualification mastery is determined by two factors:

  • Qualification level. The level of major qualification of a tanker.
  • Vehicle control mastery. Crew members can use their skills to the fullest only on the vehicle for which they are currently trained, or on Premium vehicles of the same type and nation.

Major Qualification Training

When recruiting a crew member, you can choose one of three major qualification levels:

  1. Rapid Courses. The courses are free, but a tanker is trained to 50% only. This training level is set by default when recruiting a crew member.
  2. Regimental School. A tanker is trained to 75% for 20,000.
  3. Tank Academy. A crew member is trained to 100% for 200.

Recruits, tankers on Tier I vehicles, Premium vehicles, and award vehicles are trained to 100% by default.

The most common way to raise crew mastery to 100% is to gain experience in battles. Every tanker receives the same amount of experience for each battle as the vehicle. The more effective they are in battle, the faster the crew is trained.

Training a tanker to 100% by gaining combat experience only can be quite a long journey, however. To accelerate qualification training, you can:

  • Train the recruited tanker in the Regimental School or Tank Academy for game currency.
  • Use Personal Reserves to gain additional crew experience.
  • Activate the Accelerate Crew Training option on Elite vehicles.

Accelerating training for in-game currency

If you already have tankers trained to less than 75%, you can send them to Regimental School or Tank Academy at any time. To train your crew member:

  1. Select the vehicle in the Garage and the tanker whose level you want to increase.
  2. Select Personal File from the menu. On the Training tab, select Tank Academy or Regimental School.

You can also train all crew members at once. Click  (Crew Operations), and in the Crew Retraining section click Retrain. Choose the training level (Regimental School or Tank Academy) in the Crew Retraining window and click Retrain. Only those crew tankers whose qualification level is less than 75% will be retrained.

Accelerating crew training on Elite vehicles

The Accelerate Crew Training option is available on Elite vehicles. By activating it, all experience earned on this vehicle is spent on crew training. The least experienced crew member is trained twice as fast and is marked with .

Elite vehicles include researchable vehicles that have all modules and following vehicles upgraded, as well as Premium and reward vehicles.

To accelerate crew training on Elite vehicles:

  1. Select the vehicle in the Garage.
  2. Check the Accelerate Crew Training box above the crew members panel in the top left corner of your Garage.
After activating this option, all Combat Experience earned on this vehicle from now on will be spent on tanker training. The experience already gained on this vehicle is not removed.

Crew Perks and Skills

After training your crew member’s major qualification to 100%, additional perks and skills become available.

Perks and skills can be universal or individual. Universal perks and skills are available for all crew members; individual—for certain qualifications. In cases where a tanker performs several functions in a vehicle, he can train all perks and skills available for each one.

The effects of perks and skills differ:

  • Skills come into effect after training starts. This effect increases with skill level.
  • Perks come into effect after reaching 100%.

  • Common Perks and Skills
  • Commander
  • Driver
  • Gunner
  • Loader
  • Radio Operator
Repairs

Accelerates repairs to damaged modules. Effective skill level is averaged across the entire crew. This skill is cumulative with the effects of the Modified Configuration and Improved Hardening equipment, the Large Repair Kit consumable and the Pre-Battle Maintenance directive.

Concealment

Reduces vehicle visibility. This skill is cumulative with the effects of camouflage (for the corresponding map types), the Camouflage Net and Low Noise Exhaust System equipment, as well as the Natural Cover directive.

Firefighting

Enhances firefighting abilities. Effective skill level is averaged across the entire crew. This skill is cumulative with the effect of the Experienced Firefighters directive.

Brothers in Arms

Improves major qualifications and all skills for the entire crew. This perk is cumulative with the effects of the Improved Ventilation, Bounty Ventilation and Venting System equipment, consumables such as Extra Combat Rations, and the Vent Purge directive.

Mentor

Provides additional experience to all crew members except the Commander.

Sound Detection

Indicates an enemy SPG shot. Allows for determining when and from which direction an enemy SPG fired a shell. Activated at the moment of the shot.

Recon

Increases maximum view range. This skill is more effective if observation devices are damaged, or when combined with the Situational Awareness skill, the Coated Optics, Experimental Optics, Binocular Telescope, and Bounty Optics equipment and the Optical Calibration directive.

Jack of All Trades

Enables the Commander to master every qualification and replace knocked-out crew members. Only major qualifications can be substituted. The replacement effect diminishes with each crew member knocked out.

Eagle Eye

Enables the Commander to identify critically damaged modules on targeted vehicles within the view range. Is effective both in indirect and direct fire modes.

Sixth Sense

Enables the Commander to identify whether the vehicle has been spotted by the enemy. This perk is cumulative with the effect of the Increased Focus directive.

Controlled Impact

Decreases ramming damage to your vehicle and increases ramming damage to an enemy vehicle. The skill is effective only while your vehicle is in motion. The skill is ineffective when two allied vehicles collide.

Off-Road Driving

Reduces ground resistance when driving on soft and moderately soft terrain. Lower ground resistance increases vehicle maneuverability and acceleration. The skill is cumulative with the effects of the Additional Grousers equipment.

Smooth Ride

Improves accuracy when firing on the move. The skill is not effective if the vehicle is stationary or turning on the spot. This skill is cumulative with the effects of the Vertical Stabilizer and Improved Rotation Mechanism equipment, as well as the Gearbox Intricacy and Stabilizer Greasing directives.

Preventative Maintenance

Reduces the chance of engine fire by preventing gas or oil leakage in the engine compartment. This perk is cumulative with the effects of the Modified Configuration equipment and the Automatic Fire Extinguisher consumable.

Clutch Braking

Increases vehicle traverse speed. This skill is cumulative with the effects of the Turbocharger, Additional Grousers, Improved Rotation Mechanism, and Bounty Rotation Mechanism equipment; the Lend-Lease Oil, Quality Oil, Removed Speed Governor, 100-octane Gasoline, and 105-octane Gasoline consumables; as well as Field Modification.

Designated Target

Makes targeted enemy vehicles visible for two more seconds. The perk is effective both in direct and indirect fire modes. If two Gunners have the perk, the effect is not cumulative. This perk is cumulative with the effect of the Improved Radio Set equipment and the Focus on Target directive.

Armorer

Improves the accuracy of a damaged gun. If two Gunners have the skill, only the higher rating is effective. This skill is cumulative with the effects of Vertical Stabilizer, Improved Rotation Mechanism, Bounty Stabilizer, Bounty Rotation Mechanism, Stabilizing Equipment System, and Stabilizer Greasing.

Deadeye

Increases the chance to cause damage to enemy vehicle modules and crew. It is effective only with AP, APCR, and HEAT shells. If two Gunners have the perk, the effect is not cumulative.

Snap Shot

Improves accuracy during turret traversal.

Intuition

Allows for quicker switching between shell types in a loaded gun. To activate this skill, a gun, a double-barreled gun, or a magazine must be fully loaded. If two loaders have the same skill, the average skill level is taken into account. The minimum time to change a shell type is 1 s for cyclic (standard) guns and 2.5 s for double-barreled guns and magazines.

Adrenaline Rush

Accelerates gun loading if the vehicle has less than 10% of its hit points remaining. If two Loaders have the perk, the effect is not cumulative. The perk is cumulative with the effects of the Gun Rammer or Innovative Loading System equipment, and the Orderly Ammo Rack directive.

Safe Stowage

Increases ammo rack durability by ensuring the shells do not come into contact with each other. If two Loaders have the perk, the effect is not cumulative. This perk is cumulative with the effects of Modified Configuration and Shell Organizer.

Situational Awareness

Extends View range. If two Radio Operators have the skill, only the higher rating is effective. This skill is cumulative with the effects of the Recon skill, the Coated Optics, Experimental Optics, Binocular Telescope, and Bounty Optics equipment, and the Optical Calibration directive.

Call for Vengeance

Enables a Radio Operator who survived the destruction of his vehicle to report enemy positions for another two seconds. If two Radio Operators have the perk, the effect is not cumulative. The perk is cumulative with the effect of the Duty Comes First directive.

Signal Boosting

Extends Signal Range. If two Radio Operators have the skill, only the higher rating is effective.

Relaying

Extends Signal Range of allied communications within vehicle's radio coverage. Does not affect the Signal Range of your vehicle. If two Radio Operators have the skill, only the higher rating is effective.

After training an additional perk or skill to 100%, a tanker can start training the next one. To train the next perk or skill, a tanker needs twice as much experience as for the previous one.
